Writing mechanics or conventions will help you communicate your ideas clearly to your audience. Correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar will make it easy for others to read your writing and take it seriously. We all know that professional writers frequently bend the rules of mechanics when they are applying their artistic thumbprint on their work, but for the vast majority of time in our class we are going to stick with the accepted rules.
